Austin EcoNetwork Logo
Website development underway!
The Austin EcoNetwork website development is in full swing. Our developer, HCIDev, is peppering us with questions about colors and fonts and looks that we want. It all starts with the logo – the look and fonts, etc.
We\’re currently holding a contest over at 99 Designs to get a purposeful logo and design ideas–you can weigh in on design options folks have submitted in less than a day here.
You could vote for/comment on the logo that Austinite Eric Cavanaugh generously created for us last year when we needed a logo for an event.

We\’ve been using it as a placeholder and like it, but before committing to the look that will be with us for a long time, we wanted to do one last look for ideas.
You are also free to submit something that you think would work well as a logo and banner for the upcoming website.

Out of all of them, I like Eric’s the best. It’s easy to read and reproduce; it isn’t likely to be confused with any other enviro logos that tend to use nature imagery; and it stresses the networking aspect of the Ecos.

The logos are really nice but they are very similar to other logos I have seen on the net. I belive the emphasis on the word network is important but it doesn’t have to be in a word…in a methaphoric way the Austin Eco Network is as strong as the fungi kindom, it expands and interconnets with everything and then sends “spores” to reach far away places to keep remediating our planet. In my opinion the Austin word should be suttle since I understand you will create Eco Networks in other cities that are in need of an organization like this one.
I hope this will inspire someone.
Thanks for your comments Erin and Neith. It’s a tricky thing…conveying so much with so little. I too like Eric’s design. I also like the warmth of a nature image and like the idea of the thriving natural world being fed by digital roots. My hope is that the online activity supports lots of positive “real world” action, positive behaviors and constructive change.
